RetroPie turns a Raspberry Pi into a dedicated retro-gaming console — Mega Drive, SNES, and PlayStation all run well, and streaming heavier games from a PC via Moonlight extends that further.
It was my first attempt at building “the perfect emulation box” — small, quiet, sits under the TV, works with a wireless controller. RetroPie on a Pi got close, but it wasn’t quite enough horsepower for PlayStation or Saturn at a level I was happy with, which is what eventually sent me looking at small x86 machines like the Lenovo M93p Tiny instead.
For 8-bit and 16-bit consoles specifically, though, it’s still a genuinely good, low-effort answer.
