Soundfonts

 ·  MIDI, PC, Sound

Soundfonts are sample banks used to render MIDI playback through software or hardware synthesis, rather than a physical wavetable synth. On hardware like the DreamBlaster X2GS, the officially licensed Roland GS bank covers most DOS-era General MIDI needs out of the box, but the board also has a second, user-flashable bank — so custom soundfonts are how you go beyond what shipped on the card.
